  1. She said I've heard you flying high on my radio I answered 'It's not all it seems' That's when she laughed and she said, 'It's better sometimes When we don't get to touch our dreams.'

    Harry ChapinHarry Chapin quote #72
  2. Good evening Mr. and Mrs. America, from border to border and coast to coast and all the ships at sea. Let's go to press.

    Walter WinchellWalter Winchell quote #2
  3. Davey- Yeah, they'll listen to it, and if it says something crazy, they'll say, 'Oh, we can't play this. This is too much for the people to handle.' There are some exceptions to the rule. There are bands like Tool, or Smashing Pumpkins. Rage Against the Machine. Nine Inch Nails. What other bands have valid things to say? Adam: Slipknot. Davey: Slipknot??? I don't know what the hell they're saying! Adam: They want to take over the world.

    Davey HavokDavey Havok quote #99
  4. Hello Americans, I'm Paul Harvey. You know what the news is -- in a minute, you're going to hear the rest of the story.

    Paul HarveyPaul Harvey quote #5
  5. It's quite funny; Soundgarden were always part of a certain scene but now two years after our split, things seem to have changed. They're playing our songs on the radio, but they label us as classic rock. I'm really proud. After all, it means that they regard us as an important band. I didn't think it would happen so quickly.

    Chris CornellChris Cornell quote #38
  6. 'In a lot of ways, I'm just an average Joe. But on radio, I can take listeners to places they haven't seen, to times that are lost. And I've only begun to scratch the surface.'

    Glenn BeckGlenn Beck quote #17
  7. In case you're wondering who this funny old bloke is, I'm the one who comes on Radio 1 late at night and plays records made by sulky Belgian art students in basements dying of TB. (Peel's compering debut on teen chart-music show 'Top Of The Pops')

    John PeelJohn Peel quote #9
  8. I think I was a handy safety valve for some time. If people called up to complain about the safe and predictable nature of the station's playlist, someone could always tell them, 'Well you can always listen to John Peel. He plays strange discs.'

    John PeelJohn Peel quote #13
  9. I've had several complaints today, all asking to bring back Lisa I'Anson. This next record is for you, Mr Simpson of Plymouth. It's 'BoltThrower'... (John terrorising radio one's lunchtime audience while standing in for a sick DJ.)

    John PeelJohn Peel quote #18
  10. People sometimes ask me what I do this show for. I don't do it for the credibility or the cool, I don't do it for the major record labels, I don't do it for the music industry... I do it for people like (pause) The Undertones. (After playing The Undertones debut EP for the second time)

    John PeelJohn Peel quote #25
  11. While that was going on my gums started bleeding. I'm not exactly sure what the significance of this is, perhaps it's the prelude to a religious experience. I certainly hope not.

    John PeelJohn Peel quote #30
  12. And from Richard, one of the three pieces of mail which arrived this week, and it says 'Look out for the German all-female ensemble called Breast. Have they made any records?' Well if they have I certainly wouldn't be able to play them on the BBC, not with a name like that, because at the BBC nobody has breasts of course. But here at BFBS they look at things very differently. I've got quite a reasonable set of breasts myself actually.

    John PeelJohn Peel quote #46
  13. And this week's programme is being engineered by Nicky, whose loveliness is enough to drive fat men to drink, but in her defence she'll come and have a drink with you while you do it. But Kevin has dropped into the studio to tell me that he's just been to see, in the last week, Yes and Status Quo. So representatives from the Peel Foundation are taking him outside for a full frontal lobotomy in the hope that something can be done to improve his emotional condition.

    John PeelJohn Peel quote #49
  14. (About to play a track which started very quietly) I've got to keep talking for a few seconds, because it starts so quietly, you see, that we might be interrupted by All Saints, and we wouldn't want that really, would we?

    John PeelJohn Peel quote #63
  15. I don't listen to anything on the radio but NPR and occasional oldies programs. I can't comment on the content or format of most commercial radio but I have read the statistics about the step-by-step deregulation of FCC rules that has allowed monopolies like Clear Channel to buy up massive shares of the airwaves. This has damaged our business (music) and our culture (American). The internet is offering bold alternatives but a transistor radio is only $25.00 and not everyone is hooked up through a computer and high speed connection.

    Rush LimbaughRush Limbaugh quote #106
  20. I am the morning DJ... At W.O.L.D. Playin' all the hits for you... Wherever you may be. The bright good morning voice... Who is heard, but never seen! Feelin' all of 45.... Goin' on 15.

    Harry ChapinHarry Chapin quote #13
  21. This is Orson Welles, ladies and gentlemen, out of character, to assure you that The War of the Worlds has no further significance than as the holiday offering it was intended to be; The Mercury Theatre's own radio version of dressing up in a sheet and jumping out of a bush and saying 'Boo!'. Starting now, we couldn't soap all your windows and steal all your garden gates by tomorrow night, so we did the best next thing. We annihilated the world before your very ears and utterly destroyed the CBS. You will be relieved, I hope, to learn that we didn't mean it, and that both institutions are still open for business. So goodbye everybody, and remember please for the next day or so the terrible lesson you learned tonight. That grinning, glowing, globular invader of your living room is an inhabitant of the pumpkin patch, and if your doorbell rings and nobody's there, that was no Martian, it's Halloween.

    Orson WellesOrson Welles quote #1

    Phil HendriePhil Hendrie quote #57
  30. To call Art Bell, you first have to have phone service in your cabin... and remember the Art Bell Show doesn't accept phone calls from phones that you have to crank.

    Phil HendriePhil Hendrie quote #62
  31. To call Art: West of the Rockies, just pick up your phone and dial 'Art'; East of the Rockies, dial 'Bell'; South of the Rockies... well that would be Mexico, wouldn't it?

    Tony KornheiserTony Kornheiser quote #1
  40. Now this is... talk about not being able to pronounce things, I'm in real trouble with this next one, because the name of the band... well it's spelt K-U-K-L. Now how would you pronounce that? I mean given that it's some kind of nordic language that you're not entirely familiar with. Well I checked around a bit, with people who know the band and they said, well, it's pronounced 'Curcle'. So I said 'Curcle', I mean that seems, you know, feasible... daft, but feasible... so K-U-K-L, Curcle, so I went ahead and that's what I said when I did a radio programme featuring this domestically, and a member of the band phoned up and said 'No, it's not Curcle at all, it's...' he didn't say it like this at all but he said '... it's pronounced Krchk'. And I said, well how can it be pronounced Krchk, I said, cause there's no 'R' in it... there's an 'L'... and the 'L' is at the end, you know, all that kind of thing. Anyway, he says it's Krchk, so this is Krchk, and frankly the title of the piece I have no intention at all of trying to pronounce, it's spelt S-O-N-G-U-L-L and it's almost certainly pronounced 'Lester'. (plays the record) That's Kukl, pronounced Krchk and this is John Peel's Music, pronounced 'Excuse me, but isn't that my ladder?'

    Phil HendriePhil Hendrie quote #97
  43. I've been saying for a long time that I'm hoping to find intelligent life in Washington ... I'm reasonably sure there must be life in this solar system, on Mars or on Europa, and other places. I think life is probably going to be ubiquitous, though we still don't have any proof of that yet - and still less, any proof of intelligent life anywhere. But I hope that will be coming in the next decade or so through radio astronomy or, perhaps, the discovery of objects in space which are obviously artificial. Astronomical engineering - that may be the other thing to look for.
